Seasons

I am astounded by how quickly the seasons come and go. The older I get the shorter the seasons get. As I was out walking in the fall sunshine on Friday, observing the falling leaves, I wondered what happened to sun bathing season and how I did so little of it in the summer. How does the summer jet by so quickly with so little notice? I have vague recollections of helping my husband with the garden produce and cleaning vegetables. I spent some time swimming and doing wading pools with my grand-girls. But one blink and it is long over. Now fall will do the same. I usually tend to get a little down and stressed when October hits, because I know it will be the quick holiday trilogy and then another year will already be over. Halloween (which I don’t personally celebrate), but harvest season done. Thanksgiving — my favorite holiday of the year — fast approaching. And then the dreaded and beloved (yes both) Christmas holiday with all its beauty and blessings, but also duties and stresses. Each passing year marks more tasks I did not get accomplished again. And it also signals a dreaded, fully dreaded, cold winter with early dark nights and too much time spent indoors. As I was walking and contemplating the fall season, and how to try to embrace it and enjoy it, the Lord reminded me of a song He gave me many years ago, called “Seasons Come and Seasons Go”. Here are the lyrics (which I retain all rights to):

Seasons come and seasons go.

Things always change, but this much I know.

Jesus Christ is still the same.

I love to praise His Holy Name.

He alone can make me see,

beyond life’s pain and tragedies.

The time is soon, it may now be near,

when Jesus Christ will again appear.

Do you know my Jesus?

Is He your friend?

Do you know that He loves you?

Do you know that He’ll be with you until the end?

Do you know my Jesus?

For He would love to be your dearest friend.

I think there might be a second verse, but I honestly can’t recall right now. This song was composed, or I should say given to me, many moons ago when I was a very young believer. I will have to look through my drawer of my old music composition recordings and see. Maybe one day I will make time or get time to focus in on my music compositions that to date no one (or only a very few) have expressed any interest in. Maybe I will practice them and actually make some decent recordings to share. Well, it could happen — if the seasons would quit coming and going so quickly. Maybe if life’s demands, tyrannical tasks and duties, low energy sickness, etc. would stop blocking my creative pursuits. Reading friend, if you would pray for me, that if God wants my music recorded or shared, that He would enable me and cause it to happen. Pray God will show me where to best spend my time and energy for His glory. All I can do as I feel my days on this old earth running short and coming to an end soon is trust that God will help me and guide me in His paths of righteousness for His Name sake, and that God will cause me to do the good works that He has ordained for me to do before the foundation of the world. That takes a lot of pressure off of me. Even as I strive to remain faithful, and number my days with wisdom, and practice more self-discipline on time better spent for Jesus, I relax and rest in God’s promises and He’s got me. He knows what I am supposed to be accomplishing as the seasons so quickly come and go.

If you would like to hear my song “Seasons Come and Seasons Go,” let me know, and that might motivate me to get a good recording made. Thanks for reading.

  1. I pray that All your talents God has bestowed on you will blossom to their fullest potential…and to his glory!
In this world of change and many of my family affected by Covid Mandates, I have to stop and remember the reason why I am here. Grounding me to the basics of a personal relationship with Jesus and that he is in control. I am learning everyday. God bless you GrandmaBeth.
    Good to read your story.

  2. Beth, I don’t know if you remember me. I attended Abundant Life with you at one time. This has nothing to do with the blog, although I really enjoy your writings. You made a smoked salmon spread that I absolutely loved. Would you be willing to share that with me?

May there always be work for your hands to do; May your purse always hold a coin or two; May the sun always shine on your windowpane; May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain; May the hand of a friend always be near you; May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
